You are right... I guess it has something to do with Reforged's release and the B.net app.

Battle.net used by classic clients (War3 RoC & TFT) will be shut down (or already is ?)
Everyone, those owning Reforged and those who don't, will need the Battle.net application launcher to play online Warcraft 3. If you don't own Reforged, you just won't be able to play with the Reforged graphics (but still have the new menus UI).
Blizzard has no interest to link the new Battle.net with classic clients. Waste of time. Maybe they will do it, for the sake of angry nostalgic players, but we should not hold our breath.

I mean, they'd probably do it like with StarCraft: Remastered in that if you don't buy Reforged you'd still be able to play Classic via B.net but having to log in with the B.net app.

Reforged has worse graphics and even there those units seem so huge there. After all, it's not fair to do such a thing to turn off the battlenet. Not only is reforged expensive and ordinary people in Poland cannot afford it, they want to force them to buy it by closing the battlenet server for classic warcraft 3. Very bad, now I regret that I started to make my own map.

If you linked your cd-keys to your Blizzard account, then just wait. For now the Battle.net app still displays "Preorder Reforged". Just wait ~6 hours.
Don't worry, you won't have to buy Reforged. But if you wanted to say goodbye to the old Battle.net in the classic client, that's too late.
