ok....
my pc has a major problem.
this is what happens
U press the power button and the first boot screen appears then the second boot screen appears and its still fine but from the windows loading bar forward there is a major error.

At some point between the loading bar and the user selction screen my pc will freeze for no apparent reason..... a friend suggested my windows was corrupt and that i should try booting windows from a cd but i thought that since my brother moves our pc around alot it could be psysical damage. I would like to open up my tower but i havnt the time..

Any advice would be lovly, thnx in advance :)

Doesn't sound like physical damage.
Do you get an error message, or does your computer just freeze on the loading Windows screen?

First, try to boot into safe mode. Press F8 when the computer is starting up, and select "Safe Mode with networking" from the menu that comes up.

Next, check your hard drive for errors. Run "chkdsk /r c:" from the start menu run panel, or boot from your windows CD and run the command from the recovery console if safe mode doesn't work.

Finally, if things are still not working, you might want to perform a recovery from your windows disc to restore the windows kernel and system files that might be damaged.

This could be due to other problems, but it sounds like a disk/file problem based on your description.

Yesterday i changed the cmos settings to fail-safe and it seemed to do some good as now i can occasionaly log on but thats is still quite rare. I got it to a point in safe mode were you click YES to continue in safe mode or NO to do a system restore. I clicked no to do a system restore. at the final screen of system restore were you click Yes to "are you sure you wish to system restore" i Clicked yes but then it froze 5 seconds later. i dont no if it did a sytem restore as i havnt had anytime to check cause it was like 1am in the morning.

And today a friend from school who has a full time job at a pc service place told me to run chkdsk /r c and here i am reading this.... if i could find my windows disk i would boot from it but sadly i cant. would hirens boot cd 9.8 work?

Soz for the long mes. but im really bored with out my pc cause im in the middle of writing some software.

today i was googling stuff and remebered this virus that i found on my pc a few weeks back....

VUNDO or virtumonde
Off wikipedia:
The screensaver may be changed to the Blue Screen of Death.
Explorer.exe may constantly crash resulting in an endless loop of crashing then restarting.
The hard drive may start to be constantly accessed by the winlogon process, thus periodic freezes may be experienced.

all three of these things have happened to my pc in the last year....
so maybe its not hardware at all but a really f&*king annoying VIRUS!

but still my current hd has like 100gig of free space and my 320gig external is full and i would like some more space....

also on my new 1tb hd what operating system should i get as i would like to run multiple systems of of my two internals.
windows 7?
linux?
or
mac?

Just reformat the drive, thats what I do whenever my comp wig's out like that.

This is why I have about 40 DVD's containing backup's that I create every 3 months. Takes 1 disks to backup data I want. +one for ISO's from each of my games, some I cluster though, Fallout, Fallout 2, Diablo, and some old DOS games on one disc

I keep changelogs on a multi-session CD sooooo

IM REDUNDANT!

I give an awesome tip that'll surely help in your advantage: Get your bloody dad.

Plus, like Wand said, I advise you to check if it's HDD that's bugging you. Try removing the HDD, connect it to another computer and check what's wrong with it.

Please don't talk about illegal distribution of any Windows software. If you want to practice pirating, do it via email, not on this site. Even in PMs.

It's not a good idea to torrent it, because it's illegal.

Yes, in-order to wipe out the virus.

And don't stick the infected HDD into your CBox, it will just infect the other one.

Take the infected one off network of course, the virus spreads easy over networks.

Don't worry, you can emulate War3 on Linux. But why order a disk, you can just dl and burn it. Burning works with Ubuntu because they don't have the lock protocol that Windows has. It's the same with War3, you can burn a disk and install, but the burned disc won't register with the game.
