gmax->import w/ bones not messed up

How can I import a model into gmax without messing up the bones (putting them into spheres in random places)? I need them to be in the right place when I import them so I don't have to put them into place (especially any mounted model because they have SO MANY BONES!). Thank you. SOMEONE PLEASE END MY MISERY!!!!! I need to know so my models won't suck so bad.....because they do.
