Final Fantasy IV(b 0.28) <- loading help!

I have problems loading this game.. how am I to save and load when playing with a friend on LAN? Consider me a TOTAL idiot and guide me through step by step plz!!!
And can you ONLY LOAD ONCE? Isn't that a little silly?

Also how the hell do ya live in this game? everytime ya day ya back to 1hp with no means of healing right at the beginning! Theonly hero i can do it with is that dragoon buy just continually jumping and using poitons but when I play a team game... the rest of my team dies!
