[FantasyCraft: Ivalice Arena]
~O~
2-8 Players - Dalaran Tileset - Huge Map size - RPG type map
I'm making a new map in which will have Final Fantasy like game play; meaning turn based, 3(maybe 4)(Heroes)vX combat. It has a job (22 regular classes so far)system like Tactics but battle system like most the other games and as popularity (or motive) increases I'll make it more immerse. The way I currently envision the game, is it will have a passive like play style, in which winning is achieved at their own pace; making competitive or relaxed game play possible. You'll have all of 'Ivalice' to traverse, meaning they'll be towns with shops (and maybe quests), fields, caves, and forests to explore with monsters to battle and train off of, and like anything final fantasy a couple secrets and a crazy boss (or two).
I also envision this map to have a couple modes. The first of which is 'Arena Mode', where there could be a PvP and/or a PvE ladder to battle. Another is perhaps 'Story Mode', where your main objective will be to smite the ominous threat growing out there somewhere intending to cause mass destruction! (OH NOES!)

Final Fantasy (especially Tactics) and Warcraft are among my most favorite game series. This idea has me so motivated that I've even posted here for the first time. This game will be unique and about tactics (not just number stacking) and most of all- fun... and maybe a bit nostalgic to those who stopped playing FF at FF9 like me.

Alas, this project could turn out awfully large... and as most mappers know, motivation is probably your biggest enemy and if it's not, than I'm lettin' you know its mine. I could probably make this map on my own but I would love some help. With any amount of motivated help, I will surely get this map completed thoroughly and done well.

Just PM me if you're interested or just post here. Let me know how you feel about this project, your schedule, and your skills in any message regarding recruitment. I am completely open to any and all suggestions. I have just about any type of IM out there as well.

Here is an early screenie of the job selection process. Its a rotation of classes much like the infamous FFT style selection. Models, etc will vary later. Makes for a nice initial feel to the map. As pan through the classing using the up and down keys a starfall animation is played over the character as they make an attack animation.

Well what can you do? And although I'd LOVE help- I'm going to be personally working on this map a lot starting out. Mostly doing terrain and features work, planning stuff out, etc.

Hm, Final Fantasy and Warcraft are also amongst my favourite games :p

Will there be a save/load system, or do you have to do everything in one go?
Abilities are quite easy for FF Tactics, as they only require some special effects and you just need to pick every unit in a certain region to deal damage/heal.

So basically you're recreating FF Tactics (well, that was quite clear from the title), but will the battles be the same? You didn't really say a lot about that... you said something about battles being passive and you can win at your own pace, but I don't really know how exactly they work.
Is it also Turn-based like in FF Tactics and can you choose a few of your characters (amount depending on the area) to fight?

Good luck with this, seems like you might've rushed into it, but it's certainly a good idea.

Wow I didn't know I was so indiscreet... battles will run like FF7. Turn based, and with an ATB system. (maybe limit breaks)

Heroes aren't going to be like cloud, tifa, etc. (maybe a secret job later) the classes and unit selection go like FFT. (As seen in the screen shot.) But right now instead of just Squires and Chemists you have all regular jobs to pick from. They just are balanced and al have their own synergy and strategy.

As far as a save/load system goes... I wasnt sure. I didnt give it much thought... if i can get some knowledgeable/motivated help than maybe i'll take this map that far and like to. But right now I just figure you pick the mode, pick your team, and have at it.

Story Mode- Your 'main' character has a quest line (Depending on your first class selection) which gets tangled up with a 'main' quest line that everyone eventually tries to accomplish. (I.E. Killing big baddie. Maybe?)
Arena Mode- Climb a PvE or PvP ladder and win. (training and gettin' stronger all the while.)

Another thing I want to again stress is... I don't want this to be another number stacking game. I would like strategy and technique to be important.

i can do terrain, some advanced GUI triggering, storyboard, some abilities that need triggering and more but i can't do modeling and 2d art.

I probably have all the terrain 'skill' needed for now. xD Awesome though. So you want to work on this project? I can get you situated right away if you want.

EDIT: I posted a new screen shot in the main post (the link in my signature).
