During gameplay move to a different map and than back to the main map

So I want to create a map with a dungeon entrance that brings me to a different map and at the end back to the main map.

Basically creating my own campaign but 1 map is the main map that brings me to different maps.

is this possible?

and if yes?
Let say I enter the other map via the main. Will the main map be resetted or is it getting saved as it was before?

any ideas
