The best advice I can give is to look at other peoples work and learn from them. Really take the time to see what makes a good terrain good, then practice.
There are a few things I'll point out.
1.You have height variation, but it's too pointy. Smooth out your terrains.
2. Never show the edge of a terrain.
3. More tile variation.
4. Imported trees kook better.
5. Set a Distance Fog.
A good technique is realism. Hills, fog, background depth, and scaling are very important. As Gilles said, look at other terrainer's works to get a good idea. Keep it up!
