Computer restarts a couple times on first startup

well, basically, the computer just restarts a few times the first time i start up in the day, or if it hasn't been used for several hours or so. sometimes it does it when it's already all booted up, past the blue welcome screen, sometimes during the Windows XP load screen, usually one on each.
It's not exactly a deadly error to me but it gets a bit annoying, plus I imagine in the long run it might not be exactly very good for the parts. I was thinking it might have to do with (this version of) windows, since when the new hd i got recently had no windows on it, it didn't do this.

Comp specs-
Windows xp sp 2 (however it has no updates since it's, er, not entirely legal but not entirely illegal too)

Intel Core2Duo E6750 @2.66GHz
2GB DDR2 800 RAM
NVidia 9600GT 1GB
500GB Western Digital HDD
Asus P5B Motherboard
1 sata dvd drive

Does this even do this before Windows is started? (Like surfing around in your BIOS?)

nope, it doesn't do that during that, if i remember correctly (99% sure)

Try staying idle a bit in your BIOS to see if it really doesn't do that. If it works, it's most likely a problem with your windows version. You should try another one (if you don't have one, ask a friend or in the worst case just download a illegal version somewhere..).

i'll do that tomorrow morning. the windows i'm on is actually temporary, waiting for windows 7 to finally be shipped from the shop, massive hold up there

Hmm as far as I remember I once heard that you can install service pack 3 without being ask for a legal windows installation?

Maybe download it from microsoft.com and then install it :/

Alright, well, I stayed idle in the bios for about 2 minutes, and it didnt restart. when the comp started afterwards it also did not restart, so it seems to me as though some part needs to get warmed up.

AMAZINGLY ENOUGH

i bought some ram recently, where the sticker melted and i thought that it wasn't working because of it. so i brought it to the shop to get it replaced, they took a look at the comp and apparently my cpu had been overclocked and thus overheating stuff.
as far as i can notice, it's stopped, so yeahhhhhhhh >_>

And the instability was likely because the CoreVolt wasn't high enough to sustain the clock
