Basically build a base wars is where you build a base, get a good e conomy and destroy your enemies.

I have played this map with you for a long time ago as I_Kill_Things(eu). Why i remember playing this is that it is the most boring game i have ever played(No joke). It Lacks of units, lacks of tooltips, and it also some serious lacks of creativety in this map. I just strongly recommend you to be a little more creative on this one because it just feels empty.


I also should mention that longer building times doesnt always make the game more balanced. I can post my version of this map to prove that ive played it with you , since there are no releases here.

I think it's not possible to balance all races together
At least try.

So far I have I have tried to balance the races, they should be pretty balanced right now... Im not sure if I balanced the gnolls ( In the very first versions they were actually the strongest! ) since I cant host to test it


I think you have played an old version where tooltips were not really good, they have been pretty much fixed already.



I agree on the lack of units, idea's are appreciated. So far IMO the only races with enough are Humans, demons and Orcs.

And IMO ogres are good too.

Gnolls and bandits feel empty, but they have enough units though...


And well, for the building times, I made them like that to give a small disadvantage to the slow races, as they have strong units and shouldn't be able to attack the other quickly

Have you given the map more than one chance? Try different races and see if it changes your mind :p

Well it seemed to me to be just dead time, mostly when i played this game as demons everything i did was ju mine gold and uppgrade. In other words gameplay becomes painfully boring.

Hehe, demons are meant to make some of the units they have ( currently 6 at the demon portal. ) and use them to stalk some enemy and attack them, make sure you can kill those units and get their gold, making your army stronger and bigger and kill them eventually ...

-Dialog to turn bounty on or off (red)
-Not sure if bounty was in V0.82b, anyway lumber bounty added too ( destroy enemy -main base to get 1 ! )
-Gnolls barrack buildings and main base upgrades cost less.

And around 3 or 4 other small things but I dunno what precisely..

I think some demon tweaks and ogre worker cost less or is less food

No, I am improving the main map.

The first version of BABW ( Build a Base War ) had a different map. The game was FFA and there were no winning conditions ( V0.1 -0.2 anyone? )

Since V0.4, the map has been updated with the current map you know. The game included 2 teams eventually. ( It has been FFA before, but the winning conditions werent there. )

Between V0.4, 0.8, the races have been remade. Since then, the humans and orcs could make more. I also showed a new race: Bandits. I deleted murlocs forever from the game as they were a lot like gnolls and it lacked innovation.

From V0.8 and onwards, the little details have been worked on, also showing new sorts of units and a new race, demons. Over the versions, the tooltips, the bounty system have been added. This made the whole map take another approach.

And now, in V0.87, I decide to make a whole new map. The only thing that will stay the same is the middle of the map...

Planned:

-New MAP, more creative. Includes, trees, stones, a landscape map, waterfalls and a lot more! This should improve gameplay overall
-Also added: Hotkeys. Expect to see Q W E R T Y the numbers of the hotkeys.

I want to rebuild the whole races ( Well, ogres, gnolls, demons and ummm... whats the name again O.O oh yeah bandits ) ... But I don't have idea's for them yet...

Well, the problem is:

I need to fix the ogres gnolls demons and bandits. As you know, they almost have no buildings...

But the problem is... What to add... As I added these races, I rebuilded them slowly, but it never came to a part it felt really finished.

Well the first map really sucked, but of course i will help you improve the new one as a tester or make triggers ( i am pretty good). Oh and btw remember to give reputation to people that is helping you/helped you here on hiveworkshop.com and welcome to the community dude :)!

GOBLINS:

All goblins 40% dodge.

Goblin melee units have 60% dodge

upgrades even cheaper.

BANDITS:

Buildings cheaper.

DEMONS

Succubus gets poison blades. 2dmg every second (3) total of 6 damage. Succubus gets better against low lvl units ( Swordmen, goblins, orc warriors, bandits ) Scrapped, Succubus strong enough.

Demon Warrior, 20% splash damage. Have you ever seen the blade he is carrying?

OTHER:

only one item shop and one tavern now.



V0.90 released.



Next version: V0.91.

This will balance the game some more and add another unit: Murloc Veteran Gladiator

I think that if it gets rated again, it might get 2/5, but probabl y jsut under 2/5 resulting in 1/5

Still, what I need to improve is:

The triggers I guess,

Add sounds,

Better cinematics ( also ending cinematics )

More options

Option to make FFA or 6v6 - I might know the FFA triggers, but might need help.



Make races more balanced ( I need a tester for that ! )

If all that is done, I am pretty sure I get a 2/5 and very maybe 3/5

Yep I am.

Now I am keeping some sort of log.

Version V0.90 included: All done!

-A whole new map, filled with trees, bushes, flowers, birds, rocks, waterfalls and a lot more!
-Hotkeys for almost if not all units and buildings!
-Gave Demon Warrior a new ability,"Big Blade" (Splash)
-Gnolls have the ability "Dodge".
-Bandit buildings have been slowly lowered. ( With 50-100 gold )

Planned for V0.91:


Triggers:

-A new dialog for Player 1(red) where the player can choose to set the Game Mode to 6v6 or FFA. Done. (95%)
-Beginning Cinematic will be replaced with a new one. Done.
-Cinematic Music. Music loop. Changed to 3.1mb version.
-Sounds for various texts. Done.
-Fixing most if not all memory leaks in the triggers. Fixed almost all if not all leaks that are able to be fixed.(?)
-New texts added
-Units invulnerable on beginning (30s after cinematic) Leaders placed a little further from summoners. Done.
-Adding Awesome show damage trigger ;D ( So you can react faster scroll down for story. Plus it makes you feel mighty )

Units / Buildings:

-New unit called "Murloc Veteran Gladiator" added, with the abilities: Dodge, Counter-Attack and Block. ( For Tavern ) Done.
-Summoner HP to 600hp if FFA Scrapped.
-Change armor types of every unit, scroll down for more info. Done.

The map is getting better. The terrain still needs some work, but is very much better than the old one. Just use more tiles on the map, cause mostly there is only grass. I still think you should at the beginning do something to separate teams, coz at the beginning one leader has slained enemy chooser.

Lol some fun testing:

Human early VS demon early:

Humans: 24 footmen, 20 rifleman, 1 priest, 8 knights.

Demons: 4 succubus and 1 demon warrior.


Outcome: Demons win with 3 succubus and 1 demon warrior. (740 - 200 = 540 profit. Can buy 2 succubus or wait 30 seconds till you have 600gold to buy Demon Warrior)
Profit for humans: 200

Mid age:

Human mid VS demon mid.

Humans: 24 knights, 12 heavy knights.

Demons: 2 Demon warriors, 1 Demon, 2 succubus.


Outcome: Humans win with 2 heavy knights and 4 knights. ( 2400 - 1200 = 1200 profit can buy 24 heavy knights from it.)
profit for demons: 1200

Late game:

Humans late VS demons late

Humans: 20 Armored Blood Elves.

Demons: 2 Demon Warriors, 3 demons, 1 demon vampire and 1 demon priest.

Outcome: Humans win with 10 blood elves. ( 5700 - 2000 = 3700 profit. 14 new blood elves, anyone?)
Profit for demons: 2000.

Conclusion:

Demons are far better in early game than Humans. If the humans can grow to a mighty civilization, the demons will be weaker.

-Rename Peasant to Worker nvm, peasant nicer.
-Fix all descriptions Done.
-Remove mana from Armored Blood Elf Done.
-Reduce ALL starting building times under 20s. Done.
-Change the defeat when you die. Instead, You'll see the whole map ( or something ) Scrapped for now! needs further testing.



I can just say 1 thing:

A RANDOM BSOD scares the hell out of you!

btw I import the unit list of 0.90 and change the main descriptions and the unit descriptions al ittle




Anyway after like 3 tests putting V0.91c as map update on hiveworkshop ^^

I cant really host anywhere else than on Garena atm.

Anyway if you want to be a tester make sure to test the map some times and report the bugs ^^ And you can also test with me sometime but Ill give you tester status if you find some bugs or balance tweaks

Updates for 0.91d so far:

-All pathing of units fixed.
-Gnolls get "Forest Walk", they can walk more easily through forests.
-Several bugged TRIGSTR_*** fixing to make the map look more nice.
-V0.91d will be a LIGHT* version. Light* versions are planned till a song is found that's under 1,4 mb.

*Light refers to a filesize under 1MB. With this map its removing the sound.

(ignore my posts I just need a place to post them so I can remember it)

For v0.92 done so far:

Movements changed:
Ogres as the slowest
Demons have slow units but also fairly fast ones
Humans have normal speed (horses pretty fast)
gnolls have faster units than humans
Orcs have slower units than humans too, except their calvary are faster (wolves)
Bandit units are slightly faster than humans
stone giant is a little slower
unknown warrior is the same
priest is slower
scout is faster.

Fastest units are:
Orc calvary
Human Calvary
Demon

So Fastest to slowest is:

Gnolls
Bandits
Humans
Orcs
Demons
ogres

gnolls are walking dogs, they always have been fast.
Bandits are well bandits they are used to running much
Humans are city life people. But military gets good training.
Orcs are a tad bit slower than humans. But some are faster.
Demons are different. Really dependso n the demon.
Ogres are big and heavy. They are also lazy. Due to that they are the slowest.

-Demon has a new spell: Demon Image
-Various orge and demo nc hanges for balancing purposes.

then yeah I need a terrainer but also someone who can make every place balanced. Ill post a list of things you need to look out for if you do think you can make it even better!

Angels are similar to the Demon Race, except they rely more on mana and mana shields/damage.

My idea for V1.00 and up:

Before V1.00, I have been dividing the "races" in, races. (duh) So, that is something that stopped the races from being pretty big without destroying a race. So my idea is to divide them in "alliances". That means that for example, the humans, ogres and some other guys work together to defeat the others. This idea should be making the "races" you can pick bigger. I have always thought that the bigness of the humans is good enough. It is actually but the problem is the other races are all smaller or not enough customized.

Implenting this idea would mean REMAKING every unit! This would also mean that the gold pick every time and the HP/damage of every creature will change to 5 times as much. Because of this change it should be easier to "balance" every unit and to make mining easier to have upgrades.

Also, lumber will be the second resource but it wont be from hacking trees. I am still thinking of what it should be xP Trading supplies sounds cool except that it's overused.

But before I Change to this all I want your honest opinion.

~Bump~

Since I have regained interest in Warcraft ( and I have played this awesome map claled Enfo team survival, too bad I can only hold 15 minutes with 2 players on easy ), I will be reworking on this map.

Something made me lose my interest the last time and that was:
-The idea's I was going to implement in this map

I hated my idea's, they were so bad. I dont want to implement multiple races of units in 1 race, it destroys my map. I also didn't have a clear vision of how I was going to make it. Don't worry though! I have combined my current idea's with new idea's to make the gameplay even better than it is now! ( Which is not so good... )



So I have been thinking and Ill start from how to play it:

The game begins, the whole map is empty. Player 1 (red) is able to set the options which are:

Game Modes:
Game modes consist of:
-Survivel
Everyone is on their own and within 10 minutes computers will spawn and they will attack the nearest player they can fight till everything is destroyed. Of course strongers units will spawn over time. If you survive for 1 hour(?) you will be victorious.
-Team Survival
Everyone is allied and within 10 minutes computers will spawn and they will attack the nearest player till everyone is dead. Of course over time stronger units will spawn. If you survive for 1 hour(?) you will be victorious.
-FFA (no teams)
Everyone is on their own and they are destined to kill eachother.
-FFA (able to ally)
Everyone iso n their own but able to set alliances with commands if they wish. If all enemies are destrroyed you win.
-Team (5v5/6v6)
There are 2 teams in the game ( player 1 - 5 and player 6 - 10 ) they have a shared king. If he dies the whole team loses. If you lose your own king you die.

Those are the current game modes to pick from. After picking the game mode, player 1 (red) gets another screen:

Bounty settings
-Bounty on
The bounty is on. 25% of the price of the building/unit is given back to you.
-Bounty off
The bounty is off. You do not recieve money by destroying/killing buildings/units.

Race settings
-Pick your own race
Allows the player to pick their own race.
-Random race
Everyone will get a random race.

More game settings might be made if there is need of more. After choosing the game settings, every player will be able to choose their race ( unless picked it will be randomly )

Race Menu
-Human - The race human. If you select this, you will be able to choose from 3 kings: Warrior, Archer and Mage.

-Horde - The race horde. If you select this, you will be able to choose from 3 leaders: Barbarian, *name/archer* and Shaman.

[Demon] - [Gnoll] - [Ogre] - [Murloc / Sea]

More to come...

Basically after you pick a race and hero, you will be able to establish your base. When your hero spawns, 2 items will be added:
-Base
This is your mosti mportant base in the game. It's able to train workers to build for you.
-Ankh of Ressurection
Since your hero is not strong, you recieve an ankh of ressurection. If you get attacked in early game this might save your life.

Your hero (king/leader) is a unit that's able to skills and to level up to fight along your units. This hero is able to become one of the strongest units in the game if used right. He can become the strongest because he is able to level up. The only other units that are able to level up are the "Generals".

Generals - Heroes you can buy to fight along your side. Is able to level up and able to learn skills. Is weaker than a king/leader but is able to become a stong unit if used right.



So once you found a nice spot, possibly near a Diamond mine ( is not needed ), you summon your base. With this base you unlock some basic buildings you can build with a worker. You can train a worker at this base.

Worker - One of the most important units in the game. Without this unit you cannot build a base. Workers are slightly stronger than a "Civilian" but still weaker than a soldier.

Civilian - A unit that increases your gold income. Civilians are fairly weak but can still kill soldiers or other units if they are with more. This is one of the few units that do not cost food.



How to get "Coins" (A coin is actually lumber but is used to build buildings or to recruit units with )
You get coins by having civilians. Civilians are units trained from houses and they wander around and give you an amount of gold every 15-30 seconds. Later in game units will cost Very much coins so having 200 civilians is normal.

How to get "Diamonds" (A diamond is basically gold and are in diamond mines ( which are basically gold mines ). Diamonds are used for upgrades. Since Diamonds are very rare in this map, it's important to get as much as you can. A diamond mine can only hold up to 100 diamonds. To get diamonds. you mine them from the diamond mines with a miner.

Miner - Miners are hard workers. Since miners are hard workers they are slightly stronger than workers. Miners are able to put up a good fight with soldiers.



Since balancing is one of the most important things, I will be making every race as strong and later modify it to fit my needs.

Heh, I am planning that you have to "unlock" every character in-game by buying their weapon and armor.

The first Unlockable Weapons and Armor will not cost any diamonds, to make sure you can get some strong units if you didn't start at a diamond mine.

However, upgrades like:
-Upgrade Damage
-Upgrade Health

Will always cost diamonds, even though the price isn't that high, unlocking weapons is higher.[/u]

Of course it isn't fun if I don't tell an awesome story around it.

Me and my girlfriend decided to build out base in the middle of nowhere. As we did that we started to build some houses and get some villagers to pay us taxes since we are noble kings/queens) and we demand money for living on our ground!

So as our economy grew we knew we needed some more defense than just 4 swordsmen and a hand full of villagers. I started to build some basic towers around my base and so did my girlfriend.

Unfortunately the zombies came closer and closer the time we were making the towers and we started killing them in hope we can get our towers done before they reach our inner base! As our fights continue and more and more came the reds queen has fallen. The villagers quickly ran towards the queen and carried her inside for her to rest.

As the battles continue, bigger zombies came inside our base and our most skilled fighters fell. My king tried to hold them bad as best as he could but his effort was not enough. Our kingdom fell.
