First icon. Spent a lot of time on that one. Used a custom photoshop brush to create the posion sacks. Then I filled in with colors.

• Update 1: Made icon less blurry.
• Update 2: Added more detail.
• Update 3: Even more minor detail improvements.

If I understand correctly you are looking for proper human skin, which is something that I don't want to achieve. This is supposed to be more like a baneling skin (not exactly though):

And I am not trying to avoid the issue by zooming in. I tried to fix the bluriness of the image, which I think i succeeded (as shown in the icon comparison I provided).

If you think the two images are equally blurry, then I believe I won't be able to make it better. :/
 
Now we are getting somewhere, seeing what you want to display.

There are two things you can try:
You can zoom out of your design, include portions of the body that are clearly visible as such, so people can actually see that this is supposed to be its skin.

Or, you can define the whole effect more.
I could see this being close to a turtle shell, but the cracks between the highlighted areas (bright green and yellow) have to be rather distinctive.

The current state of this shows a field of colours - there's nothing concrete here that makes people say "ah, I see, this is skin/surface of a creature/object".
