Because its a very effective way to make icons 
You can take a simple model, and with a bit of free hand to sharpen it and fix it up, it looks great whilst saving you the time of hand drawing everything.

Yo Blard, Gotta question. What tool did u use to make this, or like what tool is best to use to dim down the pixels. Because i always see it and it kind makes me mad..
