As I even said in the description I basically took the design from that icon yes.
It is completely and utterly made from scratch by me.

He doesn't need to. An inspiration source is not an alteration. If he had taken the DotA icon and altered it he was required to give credits.

Not saying that it wouldn't be a nice thing to do, but it is not necessary.

Looks pretty cool and useful. I would maybe just suggest highlighting the smoke a little more bit. Making the smoke's color darker I think would do the trick!
