Inspired from the item "smoke of deceit" in Dota/Dota 2. Pretty similar, used their design. Anyway, this is my take on it. Enjoy.

He doesn't need to. An inspiration source is not an alteration. If he had taken the DotA icon and altered it he was required to give credits.
Not saying that it wouldn't be a nice thing to do, but it is not necessary.

Looks pretty cool and useful. I would maybe just suggest highlighting the smoke a little more bit. Making the smoke's color darker I think would do the trick!
