Don't take the "cartoonish"-argument as something negative. Warcraft III icons ARE rather cartoonish, that's part of their own style.
We just want people to find THEIR own style while combining cartoonish looks with as much realism as possible.

have you tried using some filters such as sharpen and contrast? cos there is that something which i cant point out exactly.
other than that, this is a superb work. i wish his goatee was a bit more clearer though. if that is a goatee.

I think he actually did mean "bat guy", as in gargoyle, cause it does have a striking resemblance to some representations of gargoyles.
