Have you thought about making the skeleton more... skeleton-ish ?
Imagine a skeleton with moon light shining on its bones.

The trees are a bit lost in the small icon, since they are in front of the mountains, fading with them

Yeah i agree, because its kinda hard to make out whats happening in the icon, maybe define it up a bit.

Ur icon reminds me of this artwork:

It seems to me that the bg is drawn in other style than the foreground.
Also, the foreground seems like it's cropped from somewhere else.
The ribs and some details in the foreground - look like CnP.
In the whole icon the cross is the one that stands out the most, the skeletons are poorly represented.
So, i suggest u to define ur subject properly. Make it the focus of the icon.
