Why it must be a wooden one? where did you called it a "wooden staff". still good anyways but i think last one fits more than current (referring to the name).

Something like "swamp staff" or you can easily turn this to an "upgrade" one, this could be level 1 and last one can be level 2. it will really fit with its name.

Maybe it's a little late to comment but it looked great on you, however, it would be great if you turned it into research icons for Murgul magicians, that is, make a level 1 and a level 2 for this icon as a kind of expert and master magician
