First i like the most, second i don't like the black lines because it goes into the background and kills the whole concept of the icon, Third one looks like so over done-it, i mean is you added too much to it, as of the white lines.

The book looks very beautiful, but the brain doesn't look like a brain really.
And it doesn't fit the rest of the icon. The proposals you have made, is good.
But the brain still looks weird. Besides that, a brain is more pinkish, not so orange.
And the black smoke, or what it is holding the brain up, should be more like on the second proposal, but not that black, still alittle blurry. The background in second proposal also looks better then the background there is now.

Won't rate it yet.

Looks alot better
maybe alittle more shading on the brain, and maybe some of the black stuff should be on the brain, so it looks more like it is holding it up.

While I must say that I'm a fan of HappyCockroach's spellbook icons, and I love<3 Wind and Water, totally worship Spirit, thinks Earth as decent, feels that Fire has fizzled out, I must however once again say that I spy.. a pumpkin in this xD
