Metal Energy Icon Review
Discussion:
For your first icon, this turned out pretty well. However, you did the most fatal mistake: using only black and white (along with gray shading), which reduces the "wow!" factor by insane level. There is something that you should know: if the icon is going to be completely colorless, it's better for you that it blows out the quality.
Your icon is blurry and undefined; in other words, it lacks sharper edges, which is the Warcraft III style, and some stronger shadows. Highlights are okay, I guess, since it looks like there's too much of them without shadows.
To be honest, I don't really know what it is. Icon's name says "Metal", but metal has a lot of sharp contrast between black and white, and also bright, shiny coloration and reflections. Icon's name also says "Energy", but I really don't see anything that resembles of it. It looks like a bull belt or a ring for me.
The creature, or mark (sorry if I'm mistaken) in the middle of the icon is undefined to that point, that it's not recognizable what you tried to draw. Yet, I like what you did with that glow, and how you made it stand out above everything else, by using sharper light and softer brushes.
Background is just plain. You tried to create a sparkly, shiny metal particles, but you pretty much made them too small and too dark, resulting in a splatter of useless dust.
All in one:
I love the concept, and I love your bravery for such a serious hard work you tried to put together. Remake the shadows, add some colors, make a more appealing background and define the sharpness a little more. You're on a good way, Bakura Yuri.
