Is it really necessary?
The icon is 100% created by me... Only the model was created by him.

In this case I prefer to change the reference of the icon, which is useful for several other models.
If you plan on releasing a corresponding icon for unique models / skins, you have to provide the original author's permission.
The authors of those I asked you to provide permission for were just active today.
Simply ask them, ain't that big of a deal.

Is this really a rule that has to be taken into consideration? To me this just seems like insisting on enforcing bureaucracy with no practical or constructive purpose.

The important part is that the corresponding files are clearly linked to work with each other.
It is like producing a skin for an existing model someone else created.
You'd have to ask for permission to use the provided wrap, to ask if it is fine with the author that people will use that skin with his own model.

In the case of icons, you'd have to ask the author of the corresponding skin / model / spell for his / her permission, since people will use the provided icons with their own creations.

Marcos DAB can very well set the two corresponding icons he created to stand-alone ones, meaning that he deletes the link to the meant-to-be-corresponding models. It is up to him what he actually wants to do.

I don't really understand why this seems to be such a problem. I checked the activity of those authors that are in question here, and they were both online today (or yesterday, to be precise).
What's so hard about asking them for their permission?

I hope I explained this as clearly as possible.

Bureaucracy? Yes. No practical or constructive purpose? No.
If you understood the above, this step is there to preserve copyrights.

Also, I am sorry to write this in an actual resource thread, but it's best people can see this as a coherent conversation. It wouldn't be very obvious if I wrote this on Licheus's profile.

No practical or constructive purpose, yes.

there is no point in this. I can make an icon of whichever model I like. if it isn't a screenshot, no copyright issue is involved. it is like prohibiting people to make blizzard fan-art without blizzard's consent.

Oh, don't worry he has my permission. I've been thinking about icons for some time now, and this looks like it fits well. Marcos, if you want, it you can make icons for all my lizardmen. in maps you can only use the myrmidon icon so many times before it gets boring, this can be very usefull
Alrighty, thanks for dropping in. :)

I actually do not want to have this conversation in a resource thread where it doesn't belong. There are reasons for everything. If you dislike them, then head over and we can discuss this in SC.
I have provided the reasons for this, and it has always been this way.
I do not see any reason why we should change anything if nobody had any problems with quickly asking someone in the past.
Usually it is a matter of a few days, for crying out loud - a period of time for which resources tend to be pending anyway.

The Icon is not very fitting to the model, in my opinion.
