Im not very good with Photoshop. Thats why I dont draw icons. I just give random view of icons made by Blizzard.
I'm going to be harsh on you now. Don't take it like an attack in any way. I'm not mad.
Anyway, on to the reply:
That does not change anything. The same rules apply to anyone of any skill level. If you upload an icon it needs to qualify for the rules, no matter how good or bad you are at making icons.
This icon in particular does provide some sort of usefulness though, could be a good variation for a spell icon originally only with an orc hand in warcraft 3.
Though it needs a lot of "fixes" for it to be good enough (at least from my point of view)
First of all get some more saturated colors, blizzard icons tend to be quite colorful while your color choices looks really lifeless. More like a skeleton command aura actually.
You've also barely shaded anything. I suppose you've traced this icon but you have to look at the shading of the original icon and try and apply that to your icon otherwise it will look as flat as it looks now. Also, don't use grey as the "magic effect" it just looks, well, weird.
If you fix all this I also believe you would clear the "50 % freehand rule" as well. So that's two birds with one stone.
Though, you are saying you "don't draw icons" so maybe you are not even looking to improve. But then you should rather create your own thread about icons like this or keep them to yourself.
