Starcraftt II
Campaign Overview Panel
They have focused on
Small Numbers. Unlike zerg with limitless numbers, protoss campaign will focus on fewer units. Dark Templars were once outcasts, but in this new world, all the protoss have merged as one. But after the alliance, the old tension started to show again, and that's were Artanis comes in. He was the hero in Brood War, and he'll be the hero in this game too. It's his duty to make these two protos societes work together. And he's found a thing that all protoss can rally behind, and that's the information of their homeworld Aiur being fallen. They have to find a way to defeat a great evil.
In this campaign, they want to capture the essence of playing as the protoss. Protss live by the code of honour, and the player will lead these mighty warriors through the game. After Aiur, Artanis will make the choice to go to Korhal, but the Terrains there are under attack by this new force called the Shadow Core, this wasn't what Artanis had hoped for. Unfortunately as this new force had attacked here, Protoss will be the ones offering their assistance. First mission in the game is called Sky Shield, and it takes place in this flying platform, which is under attack, falling to the surface of Korhal. The goal for Protoss here is to regain the control of this platform. You'll need to retake back certain locations in order to regain the control. Once you've done that, Raynor's forces will come and repair these locations. And then that buys the player more time.
There'll be a mission called "Unleashed", where protoss forces will come prepared for war. You'll be kind of low in minerals in that mission, and you'll need to
move your base to the other part of the map, to gather more resources. Downside of this is that forces of Shadow Core might be prepared for your arrival to certain locations.
There'll be environment which they've never shown before, and that is
Protoss city. They've tried to make some places look infected. They have new techniques to render texture much more stylistically. They've made custom made ramps and staircase and stuff. In
Korhal, there'll be places which have been under attack by Heart of the Swarm, and repaired, now attacked again. Next is
Shakuras, home of the Dark Templar, which is under attacked. There'll be plasma shots going to the air, lots of scripted events. In the game'll be also giant Dark Templar temple, in whichs center will be Xel'Naga temple, which'll be even larger. And also in the end thousands of zerg are trying to get to you. Next is
Slayn, home of Tal'Daring. There will be more religional stuff, such as sacrificial pits. The mission is go through the map, and pushing the enemy in to this pit before they do it to you. It is a much more darker world and very harsh, which fits well with the Tal'Daring. Finally we've
Cybros, home space station "Purifiers", which is an ancient safe force made by protoss. Artanis will remember them, and reactive the Purifiers to get them to fight for the protoss. You'll have to fight the zerg in this map.
They wanted to great the fantasy of what it feels like to play as the protoss, by creating high depth details in cutscenes. And just saying, the cutscene they showed was epic o.o.
In this panel, they gave us some info about yet a new game mode, called "Allied Commanders", which is objective based co-op experience. You'll pick a commander from your favourite race, and unlock units & abilities and open-end progression experienced versus AI. They didn't tell us more about it at this time.
Is there an Arcade panel or anything like that? Any new arcade features? They say the campaign features moving terrain platforms so I wonder...
Haven't seen such content yet, apart from "it won't need WoL or HotS", I think that's a huge deal for those who's new to the game and would like to produce games with the full version of Galaxy Editor.
