You're not the only one, an uploaded texture has its definition worse than the original black dragon's one.
Not only definition, but also a wrap should be taken into account - and usually you cannot figure it out if a texture is good just by looking at .blp file.

I'm not sure if exactly the same texture is present on these screenshots, but maybe it looks OK only from a distance. Of course it's up to you whether to improve your texture or not, I just want to say that the idea is great but not the execution, just like this one

Your statement is quite accurate. At that time, the creation of this skin was based on the model I uploaded as a template, so this skin heavily relies on this model.
