Automatically "Defend (Ability)" for a unit

Is there a way to make a unit (footman or whatever doesnt matter) automatically hold the "defend" ability model without activating an ability, and without having the bonuses: reflection, slow movement speed etc.
If not is there a way to make a unit hold the defend ability without having to give it an ability to activate?

Short version: having a footman always walking around with it's shield up(defend) without having to give it an ability or mess wtih triggers. any info would help.

add "defend" to the following fields in the unit part of the object editor:
"Art - Required Animation Names"
"Art - Required Animation Names - Attachments"
"Art - Required Attachment Link Names"
"Art - Required Animation Names"
"Art - Required Bone Names"

thank you so much :D ill try it out now. i dont have much understanding/experience with those odd-ball fields
