attaching skin to new model

ok, i just finished making my model in gmax, can anyone tell me how to set a skin to it (i hear it has something to do with pathing??? or something? any help)

EDIT: if you dont know this model is going to Lord_saurons axis&allies: Europe map, if u like his map and are able to help i'm sure he'll be thannkfull as well
