I got a graphic tablet earlier this week and have been attempting some scribbles. Most are completely random and unpostable, but here are some semi decent ones. Once I learn to colour them properly they might look kind of good.

At least, you should erase the filling somehow - she looks a bit too messy with all that zigzag around.
But the face especially it really nice, as well as the hand (in which I epically fail)

Photoshop + Graphire4. I doodle the lineart, then smother it with some flat colours, then work it out from there.

New thingy! This here is Gok the Kog, a distant relative of the panda in the first post.

Yes, the second one is a shoddy recolour of the first. Also, I forgot to recolour the highlights. Lazy, lazy child.

Bulbasaur: I figure that if I draw one Pokemon a day, for the next 493+8 days, I'll eventually have worked out a style of my own. Of course, copying someone else's design probably works counter to that...

Another batch of randomness. My mum kicked me off the computer for a few days D: However, after shedding a few tears I have hopefully returned until the holidays end ... which in Australia is another 6 weeks. Hurrah!

The blue cityscape type thing is based of a tutorial I found trawling through deviantArt, the meh moon and mountain thing is a 5 minute scribble, and the eye is ... an eye.

Reality ftw? Look at the upper picture, the one with the moon. It's great looking now but when you enlarge it, you see the style flaws. Wouldn't it be better to have smooth ending lines rather than this?

Well, i tried a professional tablet at my friend's, his dad's a designer and got to a practical and logical conclusion that size jitter+pen pressure = line width dependent on how hard you press(wow) so as i saw it, size jitter changes quite a lot.

I use several brushes, and the lineart one is like that, where pressure controls diameter. I use it for lineart and base colors. I also use one where pressure controls both diameter and opacity which I use for shading etc.

I never got to use a tablet for a longer period of time so i have not evolved a style of my own but ike, a better variety of brushes would not kill you, that's what i wanted to say.

It SEEMS I have size jitter on. 'twould appear that it automatically is on or something.

Anyhow.

Now decided to make some badass pokemon evolutions to amuse myself. This phase will end with the school year, I promise. Holidays start on the 6th. Hurrah! And then 6 weeks off. HURRAH!

Also...I am proud to announce that I finally snatched the art prize from the grasp of one of my buddies. Officially teh firstest in art in year 9 in mah skool.

One of the pictures below is Drifbomb, a somewhat more nasty evolution of Drifloon and Co. The other is Marowakakakakaka, Marowak with more wakakaka.

They're all photoshop doodlings ^^ Some more stuff I finished started (and will never, ever, ever finish...) in the last few weeks. A portrait which vaguely resembles me. Kind of. No references, so it kind of-ish took after a self portrait done a looooong time ago...some time this year. Uh. A robot thing. It's the Trinity. A machine thing that has three rotating weapon pods for melee, mid-range and long ranged attacks, what with a slash saber(the bazeeewwww red thing), a laser pointer thing, and some sort of missile pod. Um. Another one is the Archangel, who is so badass his wings come of out his arms. Strange. And the blue-teal thing is a Raptor, somewhat inspired by the 'Legendary Machine' the DRAGOON in SSBB. (Apparently the Dragoon is from Kirby Air Ride. How 'bout dat?) Oh...and a page of scribblings. Anyhow, this time round I'm looking for criticisms and nothing else. Abuse pl0x.

Anyhow, I'm very depressed at how abysmal my crap is in comparison with the stuff on the net. I still haven't worked out how to create ambience in anything. Hell, I haven't even finished a picture for liek a month.

So, here is a dump of some stuff scribbled over the past fortnight or so. BLARGH.

The werewolf thing came from playing too much Werewolf - Transylvania recently. That map is quite addictive

Uh. The demon thing with the nifty skull shield is a Meteora - Demon of the Falling Star. Somewhat like Infernals, except they're completely inept and can only hide behind their shields. Having 125012% return and global Taunt does help their controllers though.

And the cuddly guy in the cape is a figure you may be familiar with... Captain Murloc! Chief mascot of a skin series I never even started. And possibly my new avatar ^^

Link the opacity jitter to pen pressure, but leave it a 0. Then leave opacity at 100% for larger brushes that are more airbrushy, but the smaller you go drop the opacity. Also, if your doing really delacate shading, drop the opacity to about 20-30%, and just edge your way up to the right tone. I find that extreemly helpfull.

To my utter horror, a 50% opacity brush was occasionally used here.

Grey, I'm trying to avoid using low opacity brushes. There's essentially no difference between dodge and burn, and using 10% white and black brushes et cetera for shading. I'm trying to learn to discern shades by eye, rather than have the computer do everything for me. Hence the 100% opacity brushes.

Use low opacity brushes, but don't use black/white colors, example:


Base color: a moderately saturated blue, not too light, not too dark.
Color you shade with: A saturate, dark blue + brush opacity around 20%
Highlights: a desaturated, very very light color + 10% opacity brush
