Review - Asparagus Forest
(Version March 12th 2024)
Synopsis: Asparagus Forest is a two-player melee map featuring the Ashenvale tileset. The lush environment gives a visually pretty battle arena for a melee match, while the choke points can turn out to be rather deadly.
Map Aesthetics: The tile usage is good and the map's environment has a very lush and vibrant look. Good job. The decoration with fallen tree trunks can look a little repetitive but overall the aesthetics are good. Visual clarity is also functional for melee gameplay.
Map Layout: The map is not pixel-perfectly mirrored, but I don't see any major balance issues. Slight asymmetry gives the map more organic and natural look. The layout itself is quite direct, with little obstacles between the players. The expansion sites are surrounded by narrow entrances that can become very dangerous to infiltrate, making them even more secure places than the actual bases - interesting design, that could be explored further.
Neutral Objectives: The creep camps thematically fit the map and seem to be of appropriate strength. The level four Furbolgs are quite tough units though, but it's acceptable. I am not a big fan of the strong creep camps on the expansion sites - the total level of the guarding creeps could be reduced down to 14-16 to make them easier to take, but that's up to you. Would be nice to see Goblin Laboratory on the map, but there's very little space as it's been used quite effectively.
Map Gameplay: Functional map for standard melee gameplay. The secure expansions are interesting element with the otherwise quite direct layout.

Recommendations:
Considering adjusting the expansion site creep camp strength.
