Animations...how do you work em properly

I've ben using anim functions for quite some time and there still seems to be times hwere i can't get certain anims to play when i want. This leads me to make crappy triggers in order to get the effect that i desire. What i'm asking is what kinds of things interfere with anims and playing animations and the like?

Hmm, I've also had a problem with the walk animation. No mater how hard I tried to make some units play it (like Arthas), it just won't... However, Diablo.dk came with some solution in one of his Arcane Competition spells... I think it was charge!

Oh yes, here it is what he did:

Custom script: call SetUnitAnimationByIndex(udg_Charger,5)

Some animations can be accessed only by their index. The index I think is in the order you see them when previewing the models in the World Editor but I don't know why walk has index 0. Whenever you can't order units to play certain animations, try this custom script and change the "5" with another value, until you find your animation.

oh i've known of that for a little while now. But no that's not what i'm talking about. I'm speaking more along the lines of getting anims to play when you want em to. I've been having trouble with that, because sometimes they just won't play for some unknown reason.
