If you're using max 5-7 search for Texporter on google, should be first result. If you're using max 8-2010 then you have the option to render the uv's to a file from Tools->Render UVW Template from within the uv editor window. If you're using something else, at least say what you're using.
 
Then just take a screenshot of the unwrap window (print screen) and paste it into photoshop and crop the square region in witch you fited your unrwap. Then you can texture it how you like. I hope I made myslef clear because I'm a little drunk.
