Review - Spiderleg Canal
(Version May 12th 2023)
Synopsis: Spiderleg Canal is a beautifully crafted Lordaeron Summer melee map for two players. The openness and well-spaced terrain offers optimal battlegrounds for a high-quality melee gameplay. Destructible props can be destroyed to open up minor pathways and multiple expansions with well-rounded layout offers a lot of strategic depth.
Map Aesthetics: Spot-on usage of Lordaeron Summer. WTIle usage is very good. Environmental shifts are done well and neutral objects follow it fluently. Only 'ugly' thing I can spot is the sharp ramp near the red expansion sites - they could be smoothed out slightly. Excellent visual clarity.
Map Layout: Layout is open, yet it has nice amount of obstacles and walls to play around with. Diagonal mirroring is done well and fairly. There are direct pathways to the enemy, but all areas of the map are easily accessible and multiple expansions with other objectives gives a lot of routing options. Expansions are positioned in slightly player-specific alignment, but expansion to either side of map is possible - especially if crates are destroyed.
Neutral Objectives: Good creep placement and environmental back-up for each camp. The creeps seem of appropriate strength and item drops are well balanced. The central red camp at high ground is a nice investment opportunity. Lovely placement of Goblin Merchant on the offensive side of the safest expansion for each player - giving a small edge to the aggressor.
Map Gameplay: High quality melee map for two players. Overall very good job. Too sharp diagonal ramp is the only minor nitpick I can give, though smoothing it out may reduce readability.
