"They stream to buffers in your browser, on disk or in memory, I cannot control that. But the way it works now is that you stream each file of a bundle separately and your browser creates the zip. It makes the download experience faster, especially on cold downloads where the zip file is not generated yet."

but why not good old ZIP download instead of this % loading?

The download starts instantly. Before the server would generate the zip and send it afterwards. Now you instantly start downloading and the browser assembles the zip. It’s faster and saves resources.
