Multiplayer can be fun as long as you auto combat the easy creep camps and all players are determined to spend as little time on rounds as possible. The fact that the game lasts hours is what makes it so good though. Nothing like playing 10 hours on an XL map
Playing vs the computer can be fun enough, but it lacks a human touch, and gets very predictable when you have played a lot.
Also I don't really like homm5 if that's where they started to introduce heroes and such.
I got better things to do than play a game for fucking TEN hours straight anyway so even if I was playing Heroes 3, I would not participate in something like that.
It goes without saying that only interested people will want play. Some like it some don't. I'm saving money these days so staying at home one weekend playing a game for 10 hours makes it easier, and keeps me entertained.
Also yeah I suspected as much. AoW is a horribly optimized game so I only played it a bit. When thinking more closely I might not have tried homm5 at all.
Yeah, sure, it is about saving money.
"AoW is a horribly optimized game so I only played it a bit."
Coming from someone playing HOMM3 with its vampire cheese that even I, who never played it, knows about?
Ridiculous.
Not sure why you're having an attitude, but I mean horribly optimized in the sense that an XL map will, given many enough rounds, start becoming extremely CPU intensive, and rounds will take 10 minutes because of computer turns.
I find it simply hilarious how you judge a game that you have only played a bit. And I understood optimized as in balanced first.
Also, regarding turn times, you've never played any newer Total War game, have you?
I judge it based on the game actually being unplayable (even with high end specs) if playing large maps. Had it not been for that it would be a great game. I probably have around 100 hours played but that is still pretty little in the grand scheme of things.
And no, can't say I have played any Total War games.
Then you have not played HoM&M IV @FeelsGoodMan for actual heroes on the battlefield like in Disciples.
I spent more than 20 mins in a battle vs 75x7 diamond golems after opening a Pandora box and it was early-mid game. I won but damn that was intense and my friend had to wait and kept bugging me what was I doing and stuff. It's why I don't like turn based strategy games in multiplayer when they don't show you most stuff that's going on like in say Chaos: Reborn.
And yeah, Undead are way too powerful in HoM&M III. Necromancy for the win...
@FeelsGoodMan Interesting, I never had any issues at all with the turn times, even on high settings & high player number. Neither had people that I know who play it.
@deepstrasz They also are in V, even if not as much which is why 5.5 nerfed their necromancy abilities.
@deepstrasz I don't mind the turns taking long time as long as something happens. What I am talking about is just waiting around forever because of AI turns. There is so much going on in an XL AoW map which is extremely intensive for the CPU. Your fight was one long fight in maybe 20 turns, while the AI issue is consistent every single round.
Also when playing Homm3 people normally play with rules. No necro, no diplomacy and so on.
I guess diplomacy is pretty bad in small-medium maps but in the really large ones it can be crazy. Say you get week of the champion (or any other high tier unit) and it spawns 40-50 stacks of zounds/legions of them It gets really fun when you have 20k champions in your army hehe.
