Hm.. you have said the model should be cleaned up after opening it in Maya, but you have not said how to do so and also shattering the model. I don't know anything of modeling or any experience with Maya. :C

Should I look at tutorials of modeling?

As mentioned in the tutorial, it assumes that the user has some knowledge in 3D modeling.

However, you can skip the clean up phase and just use the Hide Tool in 3D Coat and get right into it.

I would however suggest looking up some tutorials for 3D Coat, if you're new to it. If you're completely new to 3D, "some Maya tutorials" won't really be enough, but if you're dedicated to learn some proper 3D tools, Maya is a damn good start.

Yeah, I'm really new to both Maya and 3D Coat. And I don't like how the model looks in 3D Coat, it's horizontal! I think I need to watch some tutorials about that cleaning up and shattering.

Yupp, rotating the model shouldn't take too long to learn. Just remember to start from the basics ;)

Again, no worries.

I don't believe maya is actually necessary if you were just to use community developed tools (mdlvis) on the wc3 before you convert.
