You do not say what your browser is, but I suggest you give New Moon a try. It is a mod / fork of Pale Moon. There are two different builds available atm: the one by Feodor2, and the one by roytam1. I use the one by Feodor2

Please check that your HDD has its DMA mode activated. I trust that the IDE channel currently uses UltraDMA mode 5 at the very least?

You might also want to reduce to a fixed amount your AGP aperture size in the BIOS settings

@Stefan.K : ok, your loss then. But it is obvious to me that Google Chrome 49 is sucking all the available RAM (especially with any additional extension installed). Therefore, your PC has to use the swap file like crazy.

If you decide to use the mod/build by Feodor2, then you should install first the K-Lite Codec Pack. Doing so will have the additional benefit to activate H.264 / MSE+H.264 support in New Moon for YouTube videos, thanks to the LAV filters
