I know, right? It's awesome!
You have to keep in mind that you can order the training & building of stuff even if you don't have the resources - that is good and reminds me positively of older Settler games, but it also means that you have to be careful not to order too much stuff at the same time. XD

How do you get them though,I pressed the unit's icon a few times on the barracks but I never got any units

You need iron bars - as the tooltip states. Always keep an eye on the resource values at the top - when they are negative, you don't have enough yet. =)
You have to upgrade your main building to get Tier 2 buildings that allow you to harvest iron and turn it into bars.
You can build goblins & war riders in your main building and in the barracks too. They cost only food (Warg Riders cost also lumber tho), but are weak. Still, a nice early game unit.

Now that I got a better understanding of what I'm doing,I can honestly say I enjoy it a lot so far.

In my opinion, this game really has the potential to be as good as the first title. But even if it is nott, so far, I enjoy it.
From what I can tell so far, they do the gameplay right. A few improvements here and there and it'll be awesome. The story is something I am very curious about.
Can't wait to send my Orcs against the Elves. d:
