Hey cool! :D

I had bought/played the Call of Cthulhu RPG (2nd edition) when I was in college. I even had bought some gaming extensions like Terror Australis (sheep and kangaroos beware!), plus two illustrated creatures' sourcebooks, and some miniatures based on HPL's universes.

To this day, I still own 4 miniatures and the two sourcebooks.

Oh I envy you! Terror Australis sounds more hilarious than frightening tbh, hahaha. I always wanted to play traditional RPG, but my friends lack the patience (or the nerdiness?). One night we managed to play some kind of made up RPG with less rules and less damage-calculating moments: half of them enjoyed and the other half slept.

Those field guides seem amazing. I indeed love sourcebooks (who doesn't?), and illustrations + info is all I would've wanted from such creatures, specially before google-era - in fact I just found the complete pdf to kill my curiosity. Now what miniatures do you have?

You probably found the official pdf of the 2015 book:
- http://www.susurrosdesdelaoscuridad.com/2015/10/spetersens-field-guide-to-lovecraftian.html

This 2015 edition has completely different art from the two 1980s editions I own. The presentation is similar, however. The two 1980s books saw no 2nd edition, and are not available from Chaosium in any form afaik

Cthulhu Monsters (1988):

(art by Tom Sullivan)

Creatures of the Dreamlands (1989):

(art by Mark Ferrari - from his official web site)

All the Cthulhu miniatures I bought were made by Grenadier in the 1980s.

Still owned today (see corresponding pics above):
- Spawn of Cthulhu
- Nyarlathotep
- Gug
- Tsathoggua

Owned at some point, but sold a long time ago:
- Cthonian
- Old One (note: how I regret it now...)
- Great Race of Yith
- Dark Young of Shub-Niggurath
...and a few adventurers.

Unsure I owned them (probably yes):
- Dimension Shambler (if yes, then I regret it now)
- Ghasts (same as above...)
- Moonbeast (same...)
- Yig

I actually found the original 80s edition by Tom Sullivan! I loved his interpretation of the "unthinkable and indescribable" entities like the Formless Spawn and Shoggoth.
Well it seems that even though you regret selling some of those (oh the Old One! And maybe the Dimension Shabler too) you were no fool in seeling the coolest ones =P

I kept the four coolest and biggest as a souvenir. Two from the Cthulhu Mythos and two from the Dreamlands. The miniatures for the Cthonians the Great Race and the Dark Young were poorly sculpted imho.

Who knows, maybe I will find them all at the flea market someday?

Both Tom Sullivan and Mark Ferrari did a very good job imho.

I suppose you already know of Alberto Breccia's adaptation work of some of HPL's novels in comic book form?

Indeed, awesome pencil work.

No I haven't, although Breccia is famous. I just checked and it seems marvellous. Thanks for letting me know about that!

I finally managed to play Call of Cthulhu with some friends this weekend! We did the Quick Start campaign, in hope that it'll be a smooth start and they won't feel bored (damn normies :p). They enjoyed it, my evil plan of getting them more into this stuff seems to be working (mwahaha!). Do you have a suggestion for the next step?

I am guessing you played The Haunting? (formerly named The Haunted House)

Have you looked here already?

I would suggest you stick to universes the players can easily represent themselves. Meaning; no scenarii set in Dreamlands.

I personally believe the Cthulhu Mythos works well too in Victorian England. Hence:

The first Sherlock Holmes film by Guy Ritchie may provide the overall setup, plot and atmosphere for a homemade lovecraftian scenario.
