Since my texture drawing skill is still bad enough, and I still wanted to make changes to them, I decided to delve into other games and mods in the hope that there would be some material that could be adapted.
In Narf's Plate Armor OSP for M&B, I saw some suitable materials, so I thought "why not?"
Yes, technically, this is another textural Frankenstein, so I would like to know your opinion about whether it should be used and whether should I take permission to use from Narf or simply mention him as author of the original materials.
I remember seeing that armour commonly when I was playing Mount and blade: Warband mods
Problem with the new texture is, its quality is much higher than other WC3's textures, that can make inconsistency, since Narf's texture was intended for Mount & Blade, which has a much more realistic look than WC3
If you intend to change the armour and helmet texture, I think it would be a better choice to find another ingame texture
If you still want to use Narf's texture though, i think that according the rules, you must get permission in order to use it : (
And when you get permission, you could keep 2 variants, "Normal" which has the current texture, and "High quality" which has Narf's texture
@SonsOfSami Well, in fact, the difference is not so much in the quality level as in the texture style itself.
The resolution of the original texture remained the same and new elements were just adapted to it.
I think if I manage to redraw this texture, bringing it closer to the more expressive style of WC3, simply by borrowing general decisions regarding the design of elements, then there is no need to worry about permission.
So from what I understand, you will recolour the armour texture to be lighter ( to fit with the gun's texture) and lower its quality a bit while keeping the same design?
Also, I think the texture design of the current\old helmet is better, in my opinion
@SonsOfSami Well, I don’t know, in order to completely change the color, I like the way it looks, so I think I will make it no lighter, but just brighter, for greater contrast.
As I have already said, the point is not in quality (this texture is placed in HerrDave's texture and already compressed), but in difference between visual styles - colors and shadows in WC3 are more saturated, the lines are thicker, everything has a more ... grotesque, exaggerated look.
