I know it would be hard, but I think you may want to invest some time thinking about putting the hatch doors on the left and right hand sides instead of forwards and backwards, because as the tank drives up and down hills the doors will become invisible at some angles, and having the doors to the sides, might expose more of them.
you could also add more polys so the door is more 3-dimensional, the rule of thumb so to speak, with doors, is 2d doors are ok for structures, which face forwards, and 3d doors are needed for units, like the hatch door I animated for minimage's goblin submarine.
there are actually quite a few units that are all mechanical and have mechanical movement styles.
