Yes, it was like this in WCII. However it was retconned in WoW.
Personally I think that this is only Hellfire Peninsula that's been like this. After the orcs corrupted the grasslands, somehow the mushroom forests began to grow, and much of the land became swampy. I think that the corrupted land, became a great place for spores of Zangarmarsh to grow and get corrupted.
Draenor in WCII and WoW are really different, though Im working on making a map that unites both, and showes how Draenor looked before.
