Is it possible to make an abilitys tooltip show the value of a variable, an integer or real variable for example.

Unfortunately, no.
The only variables that you can reference in tooltips are the ones in the standard abilities that refer to a specific data field. As far as using global variables from trigger, that unfortunately can not be done.
