Lordaeron Gambit
The launch of the Lordaeron Gambit project page! Developing this map has been a blast and I am happy to finally share some of its progress with the Hive Workshop.
What is to Lordaeron Gambit?
Lordaeron Gambit is a map I began developing a few years back with the launch of Reforged after the update(s) broke my progress on my previous map Northrend Gambit. Taking a hit to morale I wisely decided to downsize the spawn-based project into a simple 2v2 in Lordaeron for my friends as up to that point I hardly hosted the map or garnered much feedback anyways. Players enjoyed the small nature of Lordaeron Gambit as it was developed and contributed critical feedback via Discord. After a few solid years in development the map has become a staple in the niche Spawn-Based Strategy community for being playable as a hardcore five-versus-five map or a more casual nine-versus-nine big team map.
What is to come?
A full how-to-play basics page, faction information page, and a suggestions/feedback page for those that do not use nor desire to use Discord.
The How To Play page will include information necessary for newcomers to the genre who may not otherwise understand what a Spawn-Based-Strategy game even is.
The Faction Information page will include overviews of the 18 factions and some event information. As the map is still quite in flux due to constant changes and development this page may sometimes fall behind and the best source of information will always be the community found on Discord.
The Suggestions page will be a place for bug reports, suggestions, general complaints (or compliments), and criticism. While I will always be checking Discord first this page will still receive my attention (though perhaps not quite as in a timely-manner)
Where can I download Lordaeron Gambit!
You can download Lordaeron Gambit from a number of sources but the primary source will be the Lordaeron Gambit Discord where you can download the map from the map-downloads repository:
The next best place to download would be from WC3Maps.com: Lordaeron Gambit. This will often provide the near latest version hosted and is updated frequently thanks to the very talented and dedicated developer of the WC3Maps site.
Finally I will also attempt to upload snapshots of larger updates up here on the Hive Workshop where I can, which will be accessible through this main News page.
Wait... its unprotected? What if somebody steals it!
This map is and always will be unprotected. If you like the terrain then ditch the unit data and use it, if there are triggers you like just take them (though obviously credit systems that are not my own as I have credited them in my map).
On the topic of taking models I likewise have done paltry UV mapping, texturing, and in some cases hideous kit-bashing for some of the models that are present in the map. Where these models are concerned it is obviously on you to credit where credit is due and I will not be held responsible if you try to pass it off as your own work (or god forbid mine). I will likely create a Credits page as well in the future which will detail many of these models and whom should be credited if you use them. But for the interim if you see a kit-bashed model that you enjoy and would like to use it in your map but do not know who to properly credit simply message me via discord or here on the Hive.
On a final note the Owl's Nest Discord only hosts maps that are Unprotected for new map makers to learn from and for ease of debugging/testing. If you wish to make a map like this simply hop in to chat with us and engage with some map makers who are more than happy to help you on your map making journey.
The map looks nice but last time I played someone targeted my hero and he died which was not fun.
Fun is obviously subjective but this niche features heavy hero targeting and a lot of player versus player combat. If you find that it is a struggle to keep up with veterans then ask for tips in the Owl's Nest discord or just do your best to keep up and practice.
The map is obviously not for everyone and if you do not enjoy things like hero targeting, permanent hero death, or team play then the map is likely not for you and that is okay!
