Ah! its up!
to believe this name was once used for an rpg that kicked rocks, now its an rts, so i guess i have to play it.![]()
Tides of Cataclysm is a warcraft 3 strategy style map by XenoStalker. To begin with, the description about
this map was well written and organise to give the player an idea of what is this map all about while at
the same time it comply with the map submission rules. The same goes to the quest log, which provide the necessary detail to player as well.
Unfortunately, the credits issues would certainly dissappoint certain party especially for those whose resources have been used in this map. The author credit those who test the map and help in scripting, but not those who work hard to create those model, scripting and icon for public usage. Using someone else resources without crediting them are just like thieving and I doubt this map would likely to be approve unless the author fix the credit issues.
Next comes the terrain, the author utilize the use of tiles variation particular well and it would
certainly impress every single player who play this map but definitely give an opposite effect for
experience terrainer as they might not impress or though it to be decently done as some particular spot
lack of the use of destructible/doodad.
As for triggering/scripting issues, most of the code was decently done which guarantee the player an
pleasant game without encounter bug. Still, there is a risk of bug occurance as some of the trigger/script
related to spells use the wait action. Wait action kill the capability of spells to be MUI (Multi unit
instability = Enable multiple unit to use the spell at the same time), so do not be suprise if bug occur
whenever a spells was cast.
Next comes the bug issues, hotkey errors where 1 or 2 ability shares the same hotkey. I am researching Path of the Templar and wound up upgrading research Stockage, hotkey cannot share the same attribute as they are primary keys. To make it worst, some hotkey doesn't work, I press hotkey T to research Tactic and nothing happen at all.
Next comes the gameplay, the gameplay was all about strategy and yet it failed to project it. Most of the bases only have a single entry, making it easier to be defense and harder to penetrate by foes. This causes most of the player to play defensive tactic and capturing bases with only a single entry as quickly as possible before the rest of the player as this bases are the easiest to fend off attacker while bases with 2 entry are most are often left alone as it can be captured later without sweat. Those bases are not only easy to be defense, but gives off an better income than larger bases if player manage to capture more small base in comparison with larger one.
The gameplay also quickly turn down the player as most of the unit have little to none ability to used as most of the ability are passive. To summarize it, My rating for this map was 2/5 (Lacking) as this map was decently done but definitely need to be polish as it lack certain aspect and have few minor bug. I recommend the author to view and play strategy game to get an clear visual of how to develop an much entertaining strategy game.
As for this map status, it cannot be approve (In my opinion) as the crediting are not given properly. In other word, the status for this map was Rejected till updated. The author of this map could update it by using the update button at the upper right of the map to upload the lastest version of the map, which would overwrite the old version.
