Overview
Hello everyone and welcome to the first map of Team LoaT.
Terran Troopers is a survival map, based on the film Starship Troopers. You remember the scene where they defend the fortress against hundreds and hundreds of bugs until the dropship arrives? This is the base concept of this map. There are 6 heroes who need to defend themselves until the dropship is ready for take-off.
A two-ringed fortress is supporting the marines but you remember how the bugs simply climbed the walls using their dead comrades as staircases? They do this on this map too so you will be attacked from all sides. Good skills and great teamwork is required to survive through all waves.
Heroes
The map can be played by 6 players, everyone has to pick a hero. We are yet undecided if there will be different heroes or just a one-fits-all choice.
Abilities
There will be a bunch of custom abilities in the game to help you survive the zerg waves. They can be learned through the upgrade dialog (see below) and are divided into normal abilities and high level abilities. A normal ability for example are mines. You can place them all around your fortress and watch those pesky zergs explode in a neat fountain of blood. A high-level ability would be gunship support which will call down a powerful vessel to mow down your enemies.
Weapons and Items
You can choose between different weapons. Since your hero got two hands you can carry two weapons all the time. You need to analyse the current situation and choose your weaponry accordingly. For example the standard-weapon, the flamethrower, will burn unarmored units to crisp but stands no chance against armored ones. So you go and take your grenade launcher, blow away the armor and then give them the rest with a good dose of napalm. Additionally you can enhance your combat strength with items like bandaids or stim packs. And everything is conveniently placed in your inventory.

Upgrades
Active and passive abilities alike are chosen through an upgrade dialog shown below. It is like an extended warcraft III skill tree but not too complex.

Buildings
You can invest your cash into support buildings. The most basic building is the barricade that will hold of the zerg storm for a bit of time. Behind a wall of barricades you can then place a turret to have some fire support. A medic bot will provide active combat healing for your marines and a repair bot will increase the speed of the dropship repair so you can flee faster from that infected planet.
The Battleship
You need to survive until the battleship is fully fueled and able to take off. The enemy will not hesitate to destroy it and it only has so much health and shields. So stay on guard and do not let any zerg near it.

Enemies
Your enemies are the slimy zerg that infected the planet you stranded on. They will come in all forms and shapes from the fast and frenzy zergling, over the flying mutalisk up to the nearly invincible ultralisk. They come in waves and additionally there are boss levels that include extremly powerful units. Every unit needs a different approach to defeat it. You may burn down zerglings with your flame thrower but you need to switch weapons to attack the flying enemies. And if none of your allies defends you against the ground units while you shoot down mutalisks you will lose your life rather quickly. So remember: teamwork is the key of winning.
Waves
Waves will come from two, randomly choses, sides to attack you. They will start small and with weak units and become stronger and more numbered as the game goes on. After you slaughtered all units of a wave you have some time to recover yourself, choose upgrades and buy better weapons. But the next wave is on the front door and requires a different tactic to fight it.
Here you see the first wave of zerg attackers. They are unarmed but killing them will make the zerg much more aggressive.

Bosses
After every 3 waves there will be a boss wave that will provide a completly unique encounter.
Be sure that they will require highest concentration, excellent teamwork and a perfect tactic to overcome. They are not just a bunch of mass hp and damage coming towards you but instead they are a real challenge of your skills and wits. Do not be ashamed if you cannot defeat them on first try.
Systems
Terran troopers will feature some systems that will enhance your gaming experience and make the game even more fun.
Day/Night
As the game progresses the day will change into night. Your vision on night is rather limited and the zerg will adapt tactics to use that to their advantage.
Be on your watch, you never know if there is a zergling sneaking up on your back.
Progress Saving
Making use of the banks introduced in Starcraft II you can earn several achievements during the game. They will be stored on your B.Net account when the game ends. Will you be able to get them all?
