target-Area based spell with no effect?

is there any spell that is target-area based and you can disable the effect so that you can create a dummy unit at the target point of ability being cast?

You can use blizzard (archmage spell) and set the "number of shards" to 0.

If I understand what you want, then Dark Portal would work. I believe you can remove the effect, and it creates units, so you could use it to summon a dummy unit.

Can't you shift click it? You should be able to set it to whatever you want then.

Go to File-Preferences-General and click "allow negative real values in the object editor" and then in the field you want to edit click Shift+Enter and then you'll be able to set values to zero or below.
