I'm not as skilled as art mods but I'll give a review anyway on my own knowledge coz I love it. See if my points are true and fix everything you prefer.

Well, the black shadows are too strong at the moment: 1. Try reducing their opacity a bit (not with tools but with brushes and colors) and 2. Go with some bright-to-dark/dark-to-bright method (I mostly mean a good color transition).

Color transitions are not executed in my opinion (except the nose). The overall shading looks a little pale to my eyes, it might be due to lack of colors (and color transitions or the teeth being flat). Eye glow's color transition could be much better, you've just went from bright yellow to pure white, that might not be suitable for the overall atmosphere.

Lastly, I suppose the lower teeth could be also drawn/seen in the icon (or at least his tongue as shown in the ref pics).

And of course you're the creator, so you make the decision.

I've followed most of the reviews you've said, except adding a tongue to the icon. I tried it but it's more confusing as a shout to let out a tongue

Looks definitely better, but you could give it more depth by a little more/better shading and rim lights from the eye glow. And you could put teeth if you could not draw the tongue. Here is what I mean overall:

Well, you know better what you want because you're the creator. See what suits it best, and try it. There are many ways I suppose, such as changing angle, minimizing the whole creature for having small facial expression with another angle, etc. But you might just want not to put either teeth or tongue, that's only our taste cause these are icons of ourselves.

Please fix the eyes/glow as in the comments. Make him have a glow around the eye illuminating off his face making him seem like hes getting enraged while screaming/taunting. Also the bottom mouth area gets lost when putting it into 64x64 i suggest making a tongue like in the mountain giant example so it isnt just nothing down there.

Maybe some drool from teeth to tongue would make for a nice detail to make the character more savage, not really necessary though.
