Problems with display adapters...I guess (Solved)

Hi everyone, today I had problems with a laptop to open the game, it turns out that when updating the laptop I was surprised to find 2 display adapters, the Intel(R) HD Graphics 4000 (this one came by default) and the NVIDIA GeForce 740M that appeared after updating Windows 10, now when trying to open the game (which by the way has version 1.30), it wouldn't open and sometimes it said "Warcraft 3 could not initialize, error 0", I've tried everything, from reinstalling the game to putting different types of compatibility, and the only way that worked for me was to disable the NVIDIA GeForce 740M, now how do I get the game to open with the NVIDIA? I don't know much about graphics drivers so, is there a solution to make the game work without disabling it?

What DSG said, plus a couple of things:

Not all games, more specifically the ones from Steam, will work with older NVIDIA graphics driver due to the missing features and more bugs.

Also, it seems that "Error 0" (or "Error 3") you've got in this thread is not related to the display adapter issues. It happens if you have a multiple installations of the game or you have opened multiple instances of Warcraft III at a same time.

Try cleaning up the registry first before switching between the two versions of Warcraft III.

Also, make sure you have DirectX and Visual C++ Runtimes being installed.

Last, but not least, please ask any kind of technical issues with your computer here

Hello again, there was a problem, I uninstalled the NVIDIA GeForce 740M with the Display Driver Uninstaller (DDU) and when installing it it said that the graphics hardware is not compatible (how could it not be compatible if I had already installed it previously? :hohum:) The problem is that now I no longer have the GeForce 740M installed. I don't know what to do anymore

-The funny thing is that the GPU used to appear in the task manager but now it doesn't appear anymore.

Also in the Diagnostic Tools under "drivers" now igdumdim64.dll appears... instead of GeForce 740M.

Sounds like you have a broken installation of the graphics driver.

I highly suggest reinstalling the OS at this rate, especially by judging the "missing GPU meter" in Task Manager.

Once you have reinstalled the whole system, including the graphics driver, make sure that your game is running with GT 740M, not Intel HD. This can be done with NVIDIA Control Panel.

I will try to install Windows again

You might need an OEM Nvidia graphic driver version from your laptop manufacturer.

Also make sure you downloaded an nvidia graphic driver version compatible with your GPU. It seems the latest driver version Nvidia released for the GT 740M was back on the 11th of April, 2019. Newer nvidia graphic driver versions than that will not work with your GPU.

Yeah, I've been doing some research on it too, the tricky thing is that it's a bit of an old laptop.

Well yesterday I was trying to fix it and luckily it was fixed, I had to reinstall Windows and update the GeForce drivers, but the most important thing was to configure Nvidia as the default GPU.

Thanks for your advice

I'm glad you had luck with all of this though.

Yesterday I also have the problem, but not the same as yours. My NVIDIA Control Panel seems to be bugged (program doesn't work). I don't know why this problem occurs, but it was now fixed.
