I know how to add portrait art but it just isn't an option. In object editor it just isn't listed. I have

Art - Maximum Roll Angle
Art - Model File
Art - Model File - Extra Versions
Art - Projectile impact...

Is it some sort of preference to show it? I have seen screen shots where people have much more options in object editor than I do, I think mine are only the ones used by the original units created by blizzard. anyway... A quick response would be much appreciated.

Portrait model is automatically loaded, you can't configure it in object editor.

If your model's name is unit, then the portrait file is unit_portrait. If you import a portrait file and use a path that overwrites a default path, you can use different portraits for units.

For example export a footman's portrait with some MPQ program. Rename it to Knight_Portrait. Then import it into your map using Units\Human\Knight\Knight_Portrait.mdx as the path. Now all knights have footman portrait.
