Locust

Hi I understand this is a very noob question but i can't seem to find an answer so please help a really new map maker(me) answer his doubts =).

What exactly is the locust ability and why is it so frequently used in spell triggering?

Locust is used on dummy units (An example would be an instant cast Blizzard where you summon a dummy unit which continue channeling the blizzard).
The locust makes the unit unattackable and untargetable, which in our example would be devestating if our dummy got killed.
