how to import weapon models

My problem is i don't know how to make the weapon models i dl from hive then import show up on my units. I take an item i make and set the Art model file to the imported item i want it to look like when held but it dosen't hsow up. How can i make the model show up on my heros when the carry an item?Y a it's a misleading title but i'm not sure what to name it.

I assume that you have correctly imported the model and any necessary skins.
