How do i import 3ds files on to gmax? (to get them into warcraft)

Anyone know why i can't import .3ds files into gmax?
I am VERY new to gmax, not to blender though. i personally LOVE blender, but hate gmax. i can only make 3d models into a game i like with gmax though. It says on blender, that i can export 3ds files, and on gmax that i can import 3ds files, gmax sees the 3ds files, and i tell it to import, it all looks fine, but then nothing happens. no import or anything... anyone know why?
