So we all know Dota or Defenders Of The Ancients.

but have you guys remember The Hero Arena Map series Called "Angel Arena" i gotta say its Pretty dead now

And i am Curious for this Map

whats the First Version of it Or if anyone Remembers It!.

I had Somany memories Playing that Map or one milion other versions of It.

Regards.

These maps were always incredibly imbalanced and you could easily win it once you found out what item or hero was OP lol.

Someone shared their map archive on reddit and the oldest Angel Arena type map I could find there was from February 2004 called "Anime Arena 5.0". No way it's the oldest version though.

I hope more people upload their old map Download folders so we can try to archive old maps like that (epicwar only goes back to 2005).

i played it and it was really buggy but it was 5.0 version and it probably wasnt the first 1.0 is lost media

Thanks to Talu for sharing their map archive here, there are a few old Arena maps to be found

Be warned that most old maps someone posted in this thread can only be playable on the older versions of the game. Higher patches remove the conversion bug in some triggers, which makes old maps unplayable.

I don't know if something was done during Reforged 2.0 but I found that a lot of old maps that have been unplayable in the past are playable now for some reason (e.g. Eul's Dota). Whatever was the reason for incompatibility, I think in a lot of cases it was fixed.

Another map from the archives: Katans Team Hero Arena Ver 1.01. This map file didn't have a date unfortunately, but I am very sure it is the oldest version (unless version 1.00 gets ever found). It only has the 12 base game heroes with melee settings and basic triggers. Considering that V1.06 dates back to August 2002 this map was probably released in the very early days of RoC.

if there is interest i have a harddrive from release of RoC and onwards, playing wc3 very actively at this time, primarily custom maps. it should have more or less anything that was hosted frequently at the time, a time where maps were usually only played for a week or so before falling out of favor.

I am very interested in that :) I even made a thread asking for that a few months back. Love seeing old maps and some of them are lost media.

Angel Arena and that hero arena map @Deliverance mentioned has got to be one of the oldest "genres" of wc3. They survived for a very long time. Finding the first version will be hard.

This website is a real treat to browse. It awakened some old memories I didn't know I still had. Like those Diablo arena maps. Such garbage, but I loved them.

I now found out that you can see the map date by opening the war3map.j with MPQ editor. According to this file this map was made on 3rd July 2002 which is the release date of RoC. Could it be? I don't think the mapmaker was proficient enough to fake that date, but maybe the dating was bugged in old WE versions?

In any case I believe this is the oldest Hero arena map that can be found.

By the looks of it, that website shows alot of botched dates. So it might be a bug:huh:

This website is really cool. Someone scraped it and uploaded it to archive.org

I am really interested in old warcraft maps

I remember getting a burned CD from a friend with a pirated version that was before the release date. I think the source was from Dreamhack Summer 2002 (Jun 13 to 16 2002) or possibly Dreamhack Winter 2001 (late November).

Of course we bought a copy soon after to play online, but my point is that it was leaked, so it is possible that people started doing maps before release date. I was a kid, so I have no idea how wide spread the pirated version was.
