What's the image have to do with anything?

Your best bet on starting: Play some GOOD RPG's and analyze them. Take notes. See what they did good and bad. Then work your RPG like that. Also, for the love of god, don't try to make 1000 different classes, 12500 items, 10000 custom spells on an Uber Epic size map with 3450 types of enemies, etc.

You WILL fail if you so much as TRY doing anything close to that.

I think that a trap a lot of RPGs fall into is the feature thing. A lot of RPGs have tons of features which might be very cool if you learn how to use them; but most players never get this far. They freak out because it's too complex, and quit.

So make it easy for the noobies, yet challenging for the experienced players.
